Evening Snacks for a Late Day at work

Here are a couple of things I threw together on a weekday , after a very very long day at work.

Too bad, my digital camera decided to head to the bone yard. Smartphone camera to the rescue!

Crisp Tempeh Sticks with Lemon

Tempeh is a very versatile ingredient and so I keep some in the fridge regularly . It is a soy-based product that can be used as a meat substitute. I found that it can even work well as a a sophisticated stand-in for french fries. Slices of lemon really complement the dish.

Ingredients

Tempeh - any variety . Pure soy tastes best
S/P , EVOO or Canola oil for frying
1 Garlic clove
Lemon Slices

The fan club and I really enjoyed this with a crisp glass of Prosecco.


Recipe
No much to say. Cut the tempeh into sticks. Fry on each side on in a hot pan along with garlic. Place on paper towel for 1-2 minutes after removing from pan. Plate and sprinkle with salt


Spicy Zucchine Oreganata

Ingredients
Blanched zucchini sticks (al dente!)
Italian Bread Crumbs - unseaoned
Fresh Chili Pepper
Grated Romano cheese
S/P, EVOO

Recipe
In a hot skillet toss zucchine, cheese, S/P, EVOO , chili. Cook 5-10 minutes until mixture becomes golden brown on one side. Plate and consume while warm.

My Calabria

Yesterday , was one of those days where I just needed to recoup from a very intense stretch consulting work. Longer days than usual, and lots of New York Metro pressure than I would like on a daily basis. So,  with the weatherman telling me that we would have some fairly nice outlooks for this weekend,  I decided to spend less time playing with my computers. My plans included included resuming and catching up with some of my blogging.. You've seen some of that already . But my highlight for the day  was for me and my Queen to head down to Chinatown in NYC.  Our plans: do some food shopping , correction some "window" food shopping and course,  just take in as much we could of the Chinatown scene. Given that Little Italy is also right next door to Chinatown, we would stop there too. If you do not know, Manhattan's Chinatown  nowadays contently fuses with it's Italian neighbors.  Great combo, isn't it ? I sure do think so.
